Wave of vehicle break-ins at hotels and motels triggers advisory

The Timmins Police Department is issuing a public advisory regarding a recent increase in vehicle thefts from area hotels and motels.

Over the past three weeks, several vehicles in local hotel and motel parking lots have been broken into and numerous expensive items have been stolen.

Suspects are persistent and will go out of their way to enter any vehicle left unattended. Incidents where commercial vehicles are broken into have been happening with some regularity lately.

Suspects typically flee with tools and other such items that are of significant value and importance.

The Timmins Police Department encourages citizens and guests of the city to remove all valuables from your vehicles, especially items left visible through vehicle windows.

Timmins police echo the sentiments expressed by the local Crime Stoppers program to actively take steps to eliminate any temptation for these thieves.

Additionally, the Timmins Police Department is working with the local hospitality industry to encourage patrols through internal security, improved lighting in parking areas and the use of a CCTV camera system to prevent this type of criminal activity.
