Three hotels next to Disney World will be auctioned off

Walt Disney World is America’s most visited tourist spot. This is why it seems strange to hear that some hotel properties near Walt Disney World have gone bankrupt and are heading for auction.

In October 2020, we reported a number of hotel properties near Walt Disney World and Universal that suffered challenges amid the pandemic. These properties went up for auction and had an uncertain future.

Despite the dramatic upturn in tourism in central Florida, it seems that not all hotels or motels are able to survive. The Orlando Business Journal reported that the properties will be auctioned together on September 1. Noting that this could lead to a greater redevelopment opportunity. The properties are located on Lac Cécile, a few minutes from the Walt Disney World Resort.

Fisher Auction Co., based in Pompano Beach, markets the Lake Cecile Inn & Suites, Star Motel at Lakeside and Palm Lakefront Resort & Hostel along US 192 facing Lake Cecile. The three properties total 17.9 acres of which 10.3 acres are buildable. The properties are sold together.

Lamar Fisher, CEO of Fisher Auction, said:

“Given their superb location, we are confident that these properties will generate significant interest from national and international buyers,”

You probably wouldn’t have stayed at any of these accommodations for your Walt Disney World vacation, as they filed for bankruptcy and closed in March. The Star Motel has been abandoned since January. However, it is possible that in the redevelopment something new and exciting will come closer to Walt Disney World.

Disney has worked hard to develop its own planned center outside of Walt Disney World called Flamingo Crossings. Flamingo Crossings offers accommodations for Disney College program participants, restaurants, shopping, including Target, and many hotels.

There is also another planned hub nestled between Disney World and Universal Orlando Resort. O-Town West is a sprawling hub of activity as it’s under construction, but some fast food hotspots such as White Castle and Portillo’s have already opened.

Perhaps these auctioned Lac Cécile hotel properties could turn into another hub of activity near Walt Disney World Resort? Provide vacationers with more accommodation options when planning their Central Florida vacation. If this move were to happen, a zoning change would have to take place, according to OBJ:

The property’s three lots include a total of 290 rooms built between 1978 and 1984, according to marketing materials. The property is zoned commercial tourist, but would require a change to the inner city core if redeveloped. The permitted uses of the property are general businesses, retail businesses, hotels, motels, retirement homes and assisted living facilities.

We’ll have to wait and see if any redevelopment of this area occurs. But maybe it could bring even more new entertainment close to Walt Disney World.
