What are the best hotels and resorts in and around Miami and Key West? Condé Nast Traveler readers have a few ideas.
The travel site just released its 34th annual Readers’ Choice Awards 2021, dividing the winners into many specific and confusing categories. It also differentiates between hotels and resorts, which provide customers with more amenities.
One Miami hotel made it to the world’s best list, but Condé Nast Traveler also graced other South Florida hotels and resorts. Here’s a breakdown of Miami-Dade, Florida Keys, and Broward County properties.
The best hotels in the world
More than 800,000 Condé Nast Traveler voters chose the 50 best hotels in the world, and only one Miami property made the list: Freehand Miami, a luxury hostel in Miami Beach. “The decision to stay here is over budget; there is a deep sense of kinship among the guests (largely millennial), and it is this sense of community that seems to be the Freehand’s greatest asset, ”wrote Condé Nast Traveler, praising the 27 Restaurant and the Broken Shaker and its famous cocktails.
La Mamounia in Marrakech, Morocco has been ranked # 1 for hotels in the world.
Best hotels in Miami
For its list of the 20 best hotels in Miami, Condé Nast Traveler ranked Freehand Miami # 1 for Miami hotels (obviously). Readers apparently didn’t mind that Freehand was actually in Miami Beach. Faena Hotel Miami Beach, a five-star hotel in Forbes, came in at # 2, with the Nobu Hotel Miami Beach at # 3.
The rest of the top 10: Hotel Colonnade Coral Gables; Como Metropolitan Miami Beach; The Miami Beach Standard Spa; Miami generator; the Fontainebleau; SLS Lux Brickell and Loews Miami Beach Hotel.
Best Florida hotels that aren’t in Miami
Yes! There is also a list of the 15 best hotels in Florida (which are not in Miami). This listing includes the Perry Hotel Key West (2); Kimpton Key West (3); Four Seasons Hotel at the Surf Club in Surfside; 24 North Key West Hotel.
The # 1 rated hotel was the Chesterfield Palm Beach.
The best Florida resorts that aren’t in Orlando or the Keys
For the third year in a row, the JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa, home to the kid-friendly Tidal Cove Waterpark, has been named one of Florida’s Top 20 Resorts (not in Orlando or the Keys). Oceanfront old-world charmer Acqualina Resort, which was named the best waterfront hotel in the United States earlier this year as part of USA Today’s Readers’ Choice 10 Best Awards in 2021, was ranked # 1.4 on the list, with the Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne arriving at # 5.
Other local resorts that made the top 20: Pelican Grand Bay Resort in Fort Lauderdale (8); Margaritaville Hollywood Beach (10); Lago Mar Beach Resort & Club in Fort Lauderdale; and Trump National Doral Miami (15).
Best Resorts in the Florida Keys
Baker’s Cay Resort Key Largo, Curio Collection by Hilton was the Keys’ favorite resort among the 15 best resorts in the Florida Keys. Little Palm Island Resort & Spa on Little Torch Key, which was on the 2021 Condé Nast Hot List, was # 2, with former favorite Pier House Resort & Spa at # 3.
Hawk’s Cay on Duck Key Family Resort, named America’s Best Family Resort by USA Today’s 10 Best Readers Choice Awards in 2020, ranked at # 7, while the following Key West resorts round out the rest of the Top 10 : Ocean Key Resort & Spa; Sunset Key Cottages; Hyatt Centric Key West Resort; Opal Key Resort & Marina; Playa Largo Resort & Spa; and Parrot Key Hotel & Villas.
