Crime & Punishment of Monday April 12, 2021
The husband of a 20-year-old woman, who was allegedly murdered in a guesthouse in Somanya, was arrested by police in Somanya in the eastern region.
Police investigations led to the invitation and identification of the suspect, Prosper Negble.
A number of suspects were shown to the guesthouse for identification.
A cleaner at the guesthouse identified the deceased’s husband as the person who came with her during the Easter holidays.
The housekeeper in her police testimony said the suspect sent her three times during her stay, which is why she was able to identify him quickly.
Two other people at the hotel, the wife and son of the owner of the guesthouse, also confirmed seeing the suspect with the deceased at the guesthouse.
Somanya police questioned and detained the suspect in order to allow him to be brought into custody on Monday in court.
Eastern Regional Police are urging hotel and guesthouse managers to insist on taking any national identification from customers who check in to verify names before allowing them to use their property.
