The Parish of Ascension Tourism Commission distributed storm preparedness bags in June to hotels, motels and bed and breakfasts in Ascension to help prepare supplies in the event of a storm or disaster.
“All of our accommodations do not close during disasters and have visitors staying throughout this period; therefore, we need an abundance of supplies for staff and guests,” said Tracy Browning, executive director of the tourism commission, which operates under the Louisiana’s Sweet Spot brand.
Louisiana’s Sweet Spot drawstring bags contained labels that read “Storm Prep Bag”, they can be easily found when needed. Each bag contained many items that were sometimes difficult to find when a storm approached. Items in the bag included glow sticks, flashlights, batteries, ponchos, ties and maps of Ascension Parish.
Cases of bottled water were also distributed with the bags.
Starting in early June, the Ascension Parish Tourism Commission distributed 106 bags – 2,650 glow sticks, 318 flashlights with batteries, 212 ponchos, 636 clips, 106 maps and 30 cases of bottled water.
Home 2 Suites Gonzales thanked the Ascension Parish Tourism Commission for the storm preparedness bags.
“We hope we won’t have to use them, but it’s always best to prepare early for what might happen,” said Holly Wolverton of Home 2 Suites.
