Authorities at Jawaharlal Nehru – Kakinada Technological University (JNTU-K) on Saturday formed a five-member committee to investigate the issue of a couple’s use of the university guesthouse for the purposes of âHoneymoonâ for two days.
According to the University Registrar R. Srinivasa Rao, the Director of the Women’s Empowerment Unit of JNTU-K, A. Swarna Kumari, had obtained permission to use the accommodation in the guesthouse of the university for two days from August 18.
However, a couple are said to have celebrated their honeymoon in the same rooms allocated to Ms Swarna Kumari on the allotted days.
In a video that went viral on August 20 and shocked college fraternity and students, the guesthouse bedroom was seen decorated with flowers.
A preliminary investigation by university authorities had established that family members and friends of the couple had stayed in two or more rooms at the same guesthouse without any official permission.
Professor Srinivasa Rao said he inspected the guesthouse on Saturday and inquired with staff about the incident.
âThe five-member committee is headed by Rector JNTU-K GVR Prasada Raju. He is responsible for submitting a report within two days. We will submit a report on action taken on the issue to the PA State Council for Higher Education next week, âsaid Professor Srinivasa Rao. The Hindu.
Meanwhile, the chairperson of the PA State Commission for Women, Vasireddy Padma, had condemned the use of the university guesthouse for such purposes.
âThe Commission heard about the issue from the media. We will ask for details on how permission was granted to provide accommodation in the university guesthouse for non-academic purposes, âMs. Padma said.
âIt is understood that the authorization is against the guidelines. APSCHE will be invited to submit a detailed report for further measures, âMs. Padma said.
