Guidelines published for the reopening of hostels in Odisha for students in classes X and XII on July 26

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government today authorized the reopening of hostels for students in grades X and XII under the Department of School and Mass Education, Department of ST&SC Development, Minority Welfare and Backward Classes and the Department of Social Security and the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities and private schools.

In a letter addressed to Upper Secondary Education, Secondary Education, CHSE and Secondary Education Council, the Additional Secretary of the Department of School and Mass Education, Pratap Kumar Mishra, said the hostels will reopen from July 26, 2021.

The letter also issued the following SOP for the reopening of the hotel:

1. The hostel or institute manager must ensure that the students are kept at an appropriate distance and in a staggered manner.

2. The hostel’s common area, such as the mess and washrooms, is maintained and sanitized properly at regular intervals. Sufficient soap or hand sanitizer should be made available to residents.

3. Students staying at the hostel should be properly counseled in matters of health and hygiene.

4. Parental consent must be obtained by students before joining the hostel.

5. The guidelines issued by the Department of Health and Family Welfare and SRC-cum-ACS must be strictly followed.

6. Residents should not be allowed to congregate at any given location inside the hostel and hostel authorities should be vigilant in this regard.

7. The head of the institute should be in contact with the local health institute to ensure periodic health checks of detainees.

8. A seclusion room should be available inside the home and if an inmate becomes ill he should be isolated immediately and appropriate care should be taken for his treatment.
