Tourism Accommodation Australia NSW CEO Michael Johnson has welcomed the NSW Government’s plan to bring forward the start date of the much-needed accommodation voucher scheme.
From February 1, customers will be able to redeem $250 Parents NSW vouchers and $50 Stay NSW vouchers at hotels, motels and other registered accommodation providers in the state.
Mr Johnson said the scheme is a huge win for the accommodation industry which is struggling with low occupancy rates and run-out bookings.
“We spoke with the government about the need for more support and they listened,” he said.
“These vouchers will boost the visitor economy in the regions, which have seen a slight increase in activity during the holiday period, and in the city, where hotels are struggling to survive without tourists and business travelers.
“These vouchers will come at the perfect time for many people whose holiday plans have been postponed by the Omicron wave and who still want a getaway or a weekend at one of our excellent lodging hotels.
“We are a resilient industry and it is these types of government stimulus that will allow us to recover and return to profitability,” Johnson said.
