Akeredolu replaces Owena motels with 8-storey Manuex hotels

In his drive to create employment opportunities and improve infrastructure in Ondo State, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has replaced the demolished Owena Chalet motels with an 8-story high-tech hotel.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the 5-star hotel, held at the four-hectare construction site in Alagbaka, Akure, the state capital, on Friday saw different personalities from all walks of life grace the occasion.

In his remarks, the Governor revealed that the project was established on a Public Private Partnership (PPP) agreement by the State Government and MANUEX Place, a premier hotel organization.

The governor said: “He assured me that I need not worry. I’m sure you wouldn’t have started this if you couldn’t afford it.

“You have shown that government and the private sector can work together. The oil industry has been clamoring for a fancy hotel where they can stay and go from there to their oilfields which is closer to Akure and safe to fly from here to the places.

“We don’t have enough hotels in Akure. Different online businesses have sprung up in the state capital.

“We are ready to work with the private sector to improve the economy of the state.

“This project is being carried out under a PPP agreement with a carefully drafted and signed Memorandum of Understanding that has taken care of the public interest.

He therefore called on investors to support the state through a security trust fund to be launched as soon as possible to fund state security.

According to MANUEX Place Managing Director/CEO Jide Ipinsagba, the building would have two helipads for in-state shuttle services, in addition to a 3,320-seat banquet hall and an amusement park.

Ipinsagba, who is the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Ondo North senatorial district in the upcoming general election, revealed that the project is expected to be completed within the next 18 months.

He said the administration’s policy under Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to attract investment into the state to create jobs for young people led to the docking of resorts, revealing the governor had courted him to replicate his business establishments in the state.

Ipinsagba promised to establish replica resorts in the six local governments of the Ondo North Senatorial District, but with lesser facilities in a short time.
