8 new hotels, restaurants and bars to discover in Round Top

OWhether the last time you were at Round Top was for Texas Antiques Week in Spring 2022 or before the pandemic, a lot has changed in the small town 90 miles from Houston. The population still hovers around 90 permanent residents, although there are now dozens of visitor accommodation options.

From full-service hotels to luxury motels, from plant-based menus to dive bars set up in 19th-century homes, here are the newly opened and upcoming pit stops that should be on your list for your next trip to Round Top.

The Cotton Pearl Motel

The Cotton Pearl Motel can accommodate up to 12 people and opens for reservations on December 12.

Mark your calendars for January 1 – that’s when the Cotton Pearl Motel starts accepting reservations. With 2,814 square feet of living space on a 1.7 acre property, it’s an ideal accommodation for families, corporate retreats, and girls’ getaways. The property can accommodate up to 12 people and has a three-night minimum. Oh, and there’s also a pickleball court, fire pit, pool, and Cotton culinary kitchen trailer on-site.

Need your coffee fix while you’re out in the country? Kasey Massey has you covered. Casa Blanke is relaxed, avant-garde, modern, meditative and artistic. As the first lady of Round Top — her husband is mayor — Massey knew exactly what the town was missing: avocado toast, fresh smoothies and baked goods. Come for the light meals refined by health guru Erin Stewart, stay for the Instagram-friendly decor.

If you like Truth BBQ, you’ll love what Abbie Byrom-Botello, wife of pitmaster Leonard Botello IV, did with Hotel Bebe. The boutique hotel opened just in time for the Fall 2022 Round Top Antiques Fair. It features four bungalows on its 2-acre property and sleeps up to 8 people, as well as a stone house. ranch style brick. The best part? Hotel Bebe is directly opposite the Marburger farmhouse, one of the most visited places in the antique fair.

Round Top Smokehouse by Lee Ellis began serving Central Texas barbecue with a Tex-Mex and Asian influence in 2020. Until October 30, the meat shop will open daily at 11 a.m.

Ellis’ other hotspot, the Ellis Motel, is a stone’s throw from historic Henkel Square. Don’t let the name fool you – this place is strictly #novacancy. Check into the “best little dive bar in Texas” for a Buffalo Room margarita and stay awhile. This drinking trough is housed inside a house built in 1880.

Want to stay away from the hustle and bustle? Look no further than the Red Antler Bungalows, located just outside the Round Top town limits near Festival Hill along the banks of Boggy Branch Creek. There are three 1,300 square foot bungalows; each with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, full kitchen, washer/dryer, dining room, living room, fireplace and screened porches. The design is thoughtful and contemporary, the location is ideal for easily avoiding the crowds.
